The reason for this letter is to assist those persons who may be considering Fr. Rex Chambers to lead their congregation. If you are looking for someone who can and will bring spiritual leadership and growth of membership numbers for your church through a loving and caring ministry, this is the man you should strongly consider for this position of leadership.
As others will tell you, Fr. Rex is truly a priest who is an expert with pastoral care. We have lived in many places and been involved with several different churches, but, we have never found one with such a caring priest. His love and consideration for all of his flock fosters a spiritual environment like no other we have ever experienced. His dedication, passion, and unceasing prayers for all bring a warmth and a knowing of God’s presence to all who become a part of a parish where Rex is leading. Rex has the ability to bring out the best in people and to foster a place of love and peace and he does this naturally.
The sermons that he preaches are full of stories that come with lessons that all can understand and also find an application of the message for themselves in their lives. They are messages of inspiration and insight and, more importantly, he preaches from the heart. He has a lifetime of experiences from which to draw upon for his lessons.
This is a man who drove through the snow and ice over Vail Pass to be with me, one winter day, for several hours while my husband had emergency surgery. He was there for both of us because he wanted to be there, not because he had to be there. This, for him, is truly God’s calling. He is there for his people.
Another attribute is Rex’s ability to lead a congregation of volunteers. Everyone participates, not because they are required, but because they want to be involved. People participate at different levels and they become involved willingly and with enthusiasm.
Rex started a men’s ministry that is a men’s prayer breakfast that meets weekly. This ministry has brought out the best in our men making them not only better Christians, but better people. These men have acquired new and meaningful friendships among themselves and have become active participants with supportive volunteer work and projects for the church. Additionally, once the men begin attending these breakfasts, they rarely miss a Wednesday morning.
The doors to Rex and Dana’s home are always open and both of them have hosted many functions for their parishioners. One was an over 50’s party that was so popular than the younger folks looked forward to hitting the big 50 so they could be a part of this fun group. These parties were usually held twice a year and one of the parties each year was at the Chamber’s home.
Another wonderful activity was our Friday ski days where we all skied with our priest. (Yes, he is an excellent skier!) Through these activities, the membership became great friends and when it was time for the passing of the peace on Sundays, plenty of time had to be allotted for this! It was a happy time and everyone was included and there was no doubt that the presence of the Lord was with us all.
I thank you for your reading of our letter and for your consideration of this outstanding priest. You would be most fortunate to have him has a part of your life.
Blessings to you, Patricia and Wayne
